Why we have refounded Labour Tribune MPs

The Tribune Group has a long and proud history as the voice of the centre left of the Parliamentary Labour Party.

Labour Tribune MPs want to build on that heritage by initiating policy discussions and engaging with the wider Labour movement right across the UK.  We will work with individuals and organisations that share our values and common goals, to develop ideas that will help inform and shape future debates around a wide range of policies.

MPs of the centre left - who make up the bulk of the PLP - have a huge amount to contribute and the group will provide a forum to develop ideas and policies that will help take our party forward.  Labour Tribune MPs will provide a means by which members of the PLP can engage with the wider Labour movement to stimulate discussions and debate among party members at every level.

We will produce a series of discussion documents on our website that we hope others will use to initiate debates within their local parties and trade unions, allowing them to contribute their ideas and thoughts as the policies develop.  We also aim to hold discussions across the country and provide speakers to help facilitate debates.

Our country faces profound new challenges and the risks of failure fall most on those with the least. Labour can only earn the right to a hearing as a party of government by showing we understand those challenges- economic, social, cultural- and can offer practical and forward looking solutions.

  • There are too many groups tugging away at the Party. Can’t we just be Labour, the voice of socialism
  • Anyone who has spent time canvassing Labour voters will understand how out of touch the leadership is. Anyone who has seen the news will have seen how serious the threat to Labour values is. We need to find a way to speak to the country again.
  • There are many sparks ready to be ignited in this valid, challenging speech. Now the embers need to be kindled and the fire and energy generated used to hammer out with our elected leader inspiring and implemental policies to get us re-elected. This change of direction for our country and people is imperative.
  • If you really are centre left then get behind the leadership.
Democracy is a scary thing for those who do not trust the membership – the vast majority are not the ‘hard right’, euphemistically referred to in some quarters as ‘moderate’, but centre left.
So are you just going to be another stick with which to beat the leadership and then say – look we are behind in the polls.
Or a positive contribution to the debate and work to getting Labour re-elected?
I wonder – Labour (Britain) First with a more benevolent face?
  • I think it’s worth noting that you have an “Owen Smith” banner in your avatar. Listen to and respect the authority of the party leader. Policy has been voted upon.

  • Brilliant. A sensible Labour group to speak for for sensible Labour members/voters
  • yet another distraction. We have a clear direction, voted on a conference . Lets talk about The ten policies. Disgusting to see so called labour supporters saying they want a tory government. Majority voted for the ten policies and Corbyn. Get on board or get lost.
  • Can we just have a PLP that listens to its voters and follows the leader. Kinda like the kids game but remembering that it is your job and you get paid money for it. If we don’t win the next election it will be because you all think that this is the kids version of life and being oppositional to everyone that keeps you in a job is like a kid ‘acting out’.
Realise that this is lives and futures you are destroying .
    Just grow up

  • I disagree Stephen only way I and lot of labour supporters will be voting labour will be if we are sure corbyn has no chance of becoming pm. He would be bad for the UK and the world, never thought say this rather have a Torry pm than corbyn
  • If this is another anti-Corbyn group then please, please stop it. Whether or not you support him as leader, he’s the only leader we have, and we need to get behind the leadership to win.
  • Something needs to be done to represent moderate voters. I have supported Labour all my life .I am depressed by the recent turn of events.Corbyn is useless.
